Nils is an MSc student at Swiss TPH who is pursuing his MSc project in VIM. Nils MSc project aims to develop a capture assay for the detection of Influenza A viruses. This assay will subsequently be established in a kit for a new device that enables real-time identification and quantification of airborne pathogens. Influenza A is of particular importance due to its high mutation rate, zoonotic potential, and its role in seasonal epidemics as well as global pandemics, making rapid and reliable detection is essential for public health.
Nils will be using hybridoma technology to develop a capture assay for detecting the Influenza A surface protein hemagglutinin. By combining immunological assays (ELISA) with antibody purification techniques, he aims to generate highly specific monoclonal antibodies that target the hemagglutinin. In addition, the project includes the production of a pseudo virus to support assay development and validation. Antigen-specific B cell sorting using FACS is also planned to further enhance antibody selection.
